With over 31 years of experience in computers and health care, Mr. Epstein has developed an in-depth understanding of healthcare databases and is recognized as a pioneer and expert in neural networks and abductive/induction systems for health care. He has published over 17 articles and presented his work in numerous healthcare and technical symposiums. In addition, Mr. Epstein's Outcomes Measurement Process was acclaimed, in 1994, as an innovation by the American College of Physician Executives. MEDai won the 1994 Healthcare Innovations in Technology Systems (HITS) Partnership Award for its Myocardial Infarction (MI) Predictor, a program used to determine whether or not a patient is having a heart attack. In 1997, MEDai's High Risk Predictor was a runner up for the HITS award making MEDai the only company to ever be a two-time finalist for the award. In 1997, MEDai and Sentara Healthcare jointly won the ComputerWorld Smithsonian Award for their project entitled, "Clinical Care Improvements Using Artificial Intelligence Disease Analysis." In 2000 and again in 2001, MEDai was named as one of central Florida's fastest growing technology companies by Deloitte and Touche as part of their "Fast 50" program.
It was during his doctoral studies at Nova University that Mr. Epstein's thesis inspired the creation of MEDai. After in-depth risk adjustment research to prove his thesis, Mr. Epstein and his advisors realized the current methodology lacked validity. Since Mr. Epstein required a statistically accurate means of risk adjustment that would provide meaningful information to physicians with peer comparison, he created one himself. Once Mr. Epstein established an accurate and reliable means of risk adjustment, he was committed to making a difference in the healthcare industry, hence, MEDai, Inc.
Mr. Epstein received his B.S. in Allied Health Services from Florida International University and MHS from the Medical University of South Carolina. Prior to the formation of MEDai, Mr. Epstein held several management and academic positions relating to respiratory therapy and is credited with developing and implementing the first for-profit home health agency east of the Mississippi.
