MEDai Receives JCAHO Certification For Core Measure Sets
Orlando, FL (March 28, 2002) – The Joint Commission of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
has certified MEDai for the processing of Heart Failure and Community
Acquired Pneumonia Core Measure sets two weeks ahead of schedule. The
remaining two core measures sets, Pregnancy and Acute Myocardial
Infarction, will be completed by April 20, 2002.
JCAHO certification confirms that MEDai has successfully embedded the core
measure sets into their system. The certification process involved two
components including 1) the analysis of fictitious patient records while
accounting for and appropriately handling missing and invalid data and
verification for completion of all measures within the core measure set; and
2) the application of risk adjustment information to the test cases to yield
risk adjusted data.
MEDai’s core measures data collection tool is available on the clients’ desktop
or through a browser connected to the internet. This tool will allow the client
to enter abstract medical record data elements required by JCAHO for core
measures reporting on the entire population at the same time that other
concurrent chart review processes are taking place. The data will be retrieved
by MEDai and integrated with data elements that are sent electronically. A
random selection process will be performed by MEDai or by client (as
directed by MEDai) in accordance with JCAHO directives. This electronic
database will be made available to the client for review and updating via the
MEDai website. Clients will then have the opportunity to complete any
missing fields with patient specific data and finalize the required input. MEDai
will retrieve the completed database according to the timelines established
for JCAHO processing and transmission to the Joint Commission. Clients will
receive a copy of the transmission to JCAHO, a Data Quality Index Report
identifying the quality of the data submitted, and a Clinical Mine consisting of
patient level data (UB92 and abstracted data) allowing access and unlimited
reporting capability for client selected Core Measure focus area (s) that
operate in a Microsoft ExcelÒ environment utilizing pivot tables to explore
and display the data. Additionally, comparative reports for peer and regional
groupings will be provided.
