AvMED of Florida Contracts With MEDai for Predictive Modeling

Orlando, FL (June 2002) – Orlando, FL – June 2002 – MEDai, Inc., announced recently that AvMed, Florida’s largest not-for-profit health plan, has signed a multi-year contract to use the company’s High Risk Predictor. The MEDai High Risk Predictor (HRP) is a data cleaning and modeling process that employs MEDai’s cuttingedge technology to identify patients at risk for high future health care utilization. Patient patterns are evaluated over time and individuals are targeted for proactive intervention to provide more effective disease management, which enhances the quality of life and reduces costs to the payer, who is ultimately the employer. Additionally, through the use of the MEDai HRP process, costs within a group of employees can be quantified both for individuals and the entire employee population covered by the health plan.

AvMed offers Employer Group HMO, Point-of-Service, Medicare HMO and other products, which provide members with comprehensive health care coverage. As a Health Improvement Company, AvMed is strongly focused on improving the health of its members and communities. “AvMED has a major initiative to be proactive in the medical management of our members,” said Chief Medical Officer Bruce Weiss MD, MPH. He continued, “With MEDai, we believe we have the best tool to identify the high risk individuals where intervention will have the greatest impact.” Dr. Weiss added, “We chose MEDai because we researched the available tools in the market and felt the accuracy level of their High Risk Prediction model was superior.”

“We are very excited to be working with AvMED,” said Steve Epstein, President and CEO of MEDai. “We share their commitment to quality and improving the effectiveness of their medical management program.” MEDai, Inc., headquartered in Orlando, Florida, is a computer information services company, software developer and tools provider that uses artificial intelligence to assist healthcare providers and payers in the measurement of quality, efficiency, disease severity and outcomes with superior predictability.
