Spectrum Health Contracts With MEDai for Clinical Decision Support and Core Measures Reporting

Orlando, FL (July 2002) – MEDai, Inc., announced recently that Spectrum Health, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan has signed a multi-year contract with MEDai, Inc. Spectrum will be installing MEDai’s Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) and MEDai’s Core Measures reporting tool.

CDSS enables users to easily identify specific steps to monitor and improve clinical outcomes while reducing healthcare costs. CDSS captures the severity-specific determination of appropriateness, efficiency and effectiveness of treatment. In addition, Spectrum will be utilizing MEDai’s Core Measures reporting tool to fulfill the latest requirements set by the Joint Committee on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO.) With over eight years of JCAHO reporting experience, MEDai has designed a data collection tool that is provided to the client on their desktop or through a browser connected to the internet. This tool will allow the client to enter abstract medical record data elements required by JCAHO for core measures reporting on the entire population at the same time that other concurrent chart review processes are taking place. This data is then retrieved by MEDai and integrated with data elements that are sent electronically, and prepared for final submission.

Spectrum Health, located in Grand Rapids, MI is the region’s largest health care system. The system currently operates seven hospitals serving West Michigan. Spectrum Health has earned honors in U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Hospitals” three consecutive years. “Clinical outcomes analysis is a mission critical application at Spectrum Health,” said Dr. John Byrnes, Vice President of System Quality at Spectrum Health. He added, “It is essential that we have a flexible, comprehensive tool to do our analysis.” He concluded, “MEDai is simply the best tool available to assist us in our quality improvement initiatives.”

According to Steve Epstein, President and CEO of MEDai, Inc., “MEDai is proud to be associated with Spectrum Health. They are a prestigious organization with a serious commitment to clinical performance improvement and a demonstrated track record providing quality healthcare. We are very excited about working with them to continue their success and improve their ability to monitor, analyze and enhance their clinical outcomes.”

MEDai, Inc., headquartered in Orlando, Florida, is a computer information services company, software developer and tools provider that uses artificial intelligence to assist healthcare providers and payers in the measurement of quality, efficiency, disease severity and outcomes with superior predictability.
