Sharp Healthcare to Install MEDai
Artificial Intelligence Systems

San Diego, CA (July 24, 2000) – MEDai, Inc., headquartered in Orlando, Florida, announced recently that Sharp Healthcare, located in San Diego, CA, is installing MEDai's Intelligent Data Cleanup (IDC) and Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS), artificial intelligence solutions. Sharp Healthcare is the largest integrated delivery network in San Diego. The Sharp system includes four acute care hospitals and three specialty hospitals, including the region's only freestanding women's hospital. In addition, Sharp Healthcare provides primary and specialty care for thousands of San Diegans through its affiliated medical groups, urgent care centers, skilled nursing facilities and home health and hospice agencies.

Sharp Healthcare recently launched a system-wide quality initiative and will use MEDai's artificial intelligence solutions to help them better analyze and fine-tune their clinical outcomes. "MEDai's systems will enable us to analyze our facilities' performance from a quality/clinical outcomes management perspective," said John Byrnes, M.D., Senior Vice President, Clinical Effectiveness. "Our goal is to provide our patients with the best care possible based on the severity of their illnesses," Dr. Byrnes said.

Sharp will use the IDC's artificial intelligence technology to establish medical data integrity and then apply the Clinical Decision Support System's neural network to capture the severity-specific determination of appropriateness, efficiency and effectiveness of treatment. These powerful tools will help Sharp analyze, evaluate and track patient outcomes.

"We are very pleased to be associated with the number one integrated network in the West," said Andrew Larkowich, MEDai's Chief Operating Officer. "It is also gratifying that their medical team chose our artificial intelligence solutions to help them with their quality initiative," Mr. Larkowich concluded.

MEDai, Inc. is a computer information services company, software developer and tools provider that uses artificial intelligence to assist healthcare providers and payors in the measurement of quality, efficiency, disease severity, and outcomes with superior predictability.

Sharp HealthCare is among the largest private employers in San Diego, with more than 10,000 employees, serving San Diego County through four acutecare hospitals, three specialty hospitals, three medical groups, home health care, plus a full spectrum of other facilities and services. Sharp HealthCare has approximately 2,300 physicians on medical staffs, 1,300 physicians in its affiliated medical groups, and represents $707.5 million in assets.
