KDD Cup for Artificial Intelligence Predictive Work

Orlando, FL (September 2001) – AI Insight, Inc., announced recently that David Vogel, Senior AI Specialist for the company, has received an Honorable Mention award in the KDD Cup 2001 competition sponsored by the University of Wisconsin. AI Insight, Inc., parent company to both MEDai, Inc. and Panther Investments uses unique artificial intelligence technology to predict results for multiple industries. This year’s KDD Cup competition focused on data mining in biological databases. The competition covered three tasks based on two data sets. Data Set One focused on Prediction of Molecular Bioactivity for Drug Design – Binding to Thrombin. Data Set Two, the one on which Mr. Vogel worked, focused on the Gene/Protein Function and localization. A total of 136 groups from around the world, comprised of between 300 and 400 individuals participated in the competition, submitting over 200 predictions for the three tasks. Only 17 competitors scored high enough in the competition to receive recognition. According to KDD Cup officials, Mr. Vogel’s entry was very close to the winning score.

While most competitors took a full month to solve the problem, Mr. Vogel using MITCH, which stands for Multiple Intelligent Computer Heuristics, was able to solve the problem in two weeks. MITCH (Multiple Intelligent Computer Heuristics) is AI Insight’s proprietary technology and is the mathematical glue that allows several different analytical tools to work together to provide solutions. For example, most artificial intelligence systems use one analytical tool to provide their predictive solutions. Some of the more advanced systems use two. MITCH (Multiple Intelligent Computer Heuristics), on the other hand, uses nine.

“We are very proud of David’s accomplishments,” said Steve Epstein, President of AI Insight. “We have always known that he is a real asset to our work in using artificial intelligence to mine data and make predictions, but it is gratifying to see him receive recognition in a world-wide competition of this magnitude,” Mr. Epstein added.

AI Insight, Inc., headquartered in Orlando, FL, is the parent company of both MEDai, Inc. and Panther Investments. AI Insight initially applied artificial intelligence technology to the healthcare industry through data cleanup and outcomes profiling tools. The success attained in the healthcare industry led the company to broaden its focus into other industries. AI Insight is a computer information services company, software developer and tools provider that uses artificial intelligence to create state – of – art analytics that can predict future outcomes and make business forecasts with up to 90 percent accuracy.
