Predictive Models Employ More Sophisticated Approaches
MEDai Senior Scientist Speaks at DMAA’s Disease Management Leadership Forum

October 27, 2003 - MEDai, an Orlando-based firm, which assists healthcare organizations in improving care by identifying high-risk patients, announced today that its senior scientist, David Vogel was a speaker at the Disease Management Leadership Forum sponsored by the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA) in Chicago earlier this month. Participating in an advanced workshop on predictive modeling strategies, Mr. Vogel focused on how enrollment changes impact forecasts. “You cannot assume that the people entering the plan have the same health care profile as the members departing the plan, said Mr. Vogel. “To date, however that’s the strategy most predictive models have used.” The workshop was designed to help disease management stakeholders maximize their processes for identifying future high-cost, high-risk members.

“MEDai has been a leader in applying sophisticated modeling strategies to the health care and underwriting arena, said Al Lewis, founder of the DMAA and currently Executive Director of the Disease Management Purchasing Consortium. “They continue to refine their methodologies to provide both the health plan and the provider with actionable information for modeling both individuals' and group accounts’ future costs.

” At the conference, MEDai unveiled the newest version of their predictive risk modeling software, Risk Navigator™. The latest release offers expanded forecasting capability by major cost areas including inpatient, pharmacy and emergency room. The profiles, which can be used for care management and premium rating, are presented in an easy-to-use, web-based Reporting Interface.
