MEDai Places First in United States in
Predictive Modeling Competition
September 8, 2005 – (Orlando, FL) - MEDai, an Orlando-based firm that assists healthcare organizations in improving care by forecasting high-risk/high-cost patients, announced today they have once again placed first in the United States for predictive modeling and data mining. This is MEDai's fifth year competing in The Association for Computing Machinery's Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (ACM KDD) Cup competition. MEDai placed first in the world in 2003 and 2004, and has scored the highest of all U.S. teams for the past 4 consecutive years, making it the company with the most KDD Cup awards of any company, government agency, or academic institution in the world. It's an important victory for the company, which applies predictive modeling and data mining techniques to advancing healthcare delivery and improving patient outcomes. MEDai was officially presented with the award on August 21, 2005 at the KDD Conference in Chicago, IL.
The KDD Cup is the most rigorous competition in the field of predictive technology and data mining with participants from all over the world competing to showcase their capabilities. The competition is open to all industries, and hundreds of individuals from around the world participated. This is the fifth straight year that MEDai's technology has received an award in the KDD Cup, the most of any organization.
This year's competition's focused on query categorization much like that performed by Internet search engines. Teams were instructed to classify 800,000 queries into 67 predefined categories. MEDai was awarded 1st Place in the United States for the competition overall high accuracy. This win again confirms the ability of MEDai's core technology and the problem-solving abilities of its scientists and software developers.
MEDai's award-winning predictive technology is the foundation for its Risk Navigator Clinical™. Risk Navigator Clinical accurately forecasts high-risk members where there is the greatest opportunity to impact cost and quality of care. Its prediction engine uses the right combination of linear and non-linear models to correctly "fit" the characteristics of an organization's population. The result is improved accuracy that can be traced right to the bottom line through improved management, more focused programs and better resource allocation.
"MEDai continuously strives to improve upon the technology that has been at the core of our success for more than ten years," said Steve Epstein, President and CEO of MEDai, Inc. "Our continued success in the KDD Cup competition is a direct result of the efforts and resources our organization commits in order to bring healthcare and other industries the most accurate solutions in the world of predictive modeling and data mining," he added.
